Counselling / Psychotherapy / Hypnotherapy:

Providing a safe and confidential space to share our difficulties and not be judged, rather be validated and helped to discover our own solutions.

This maybe to uncover and understand  our individual 'operating systems' and what it maybe influenced by, what are our triggers, patterns, our defence mechanisms, maladapted thinking etc.. This is necessary to making lasting positive changes.  Many of these programs/life scripts are hidden in our subconscious and through exploration with a trained therapist we can start to make a bit more sense of ourselves.  This awareness can help to alleviate anxiety and depression as we become more aligned with our true selves.

Imagine the tip of an iceberg representing our conscious mind, and many of our beliefs and values are stored below in the subconscious. Some of these beliefs we will be unaware of as were laid at a very early age when life 'blueprints' are being built, inherited from care givers, community and cultural leaders, teachers, significant adults, society and environment to name but a few. Some of them we form ourselves from our knowledge and experience, some will be maladapted to manage difficulties we do not understand or unable to cope at the time, so our minds have been creative in order to survive.

Counselling/psychotherapy can help you to:

Understand what maybe causing persistent anxiety or depression, or why you keep repeating patterns and then  critical of yourselves, you need to find out what is at the root of it to understand, be able to offer compassion and quieten that highly critical voice,  be able to make positive changes, dismissing beliefs that are not actually your own, or maladapted coping mechanisms.  Identify areas that are not in alignment to your 'true self' and be more self-aware, find out who you are.

Or talk about something in a confidential and non-judgemental safe space, where exploration can help to find solutions..  Therapy can help to increase self-awareness, uncover unmet psychological needs by using the 'hierarchy of human needs', evaluate those that are externally met and could be keeping you vulnerable and disempowered, all of which are detrimental to good mental health.

As an Integrative therapist I am able to use multiple theories, interventions and psych education that will suit your needs and goals

Working with ADHD

Many people consider this a 'label' to be avoided, it can be more helpful to consider it to be a descriptor: of our executive functioning ability, of how our brain works which is essential to get the best out of it and support the area's that are impaired.

It is equally important to not compare to others, simply because it is about functionality, the differences and impairments will be individual, considering what age a development delay to that area of the brain occurred and why, which impairments are present, level of intensity of impairments, and we still have individual experiences that influence our emotional regulation ability.

It Is diagnosed where there is consistent and significant impairments in the executive function of the brain affecting emotional regulation, rejection sensitivity, working memory, focus and attention, decision making, and the way it manages dopamine (interest based), Impulse control, time awareness, social cues, managing relationships, stimulation (stimming /hyperactivity).  There are 3 classifications in the UK, Predominantly Inattentive, Predominantly Hyperactive and combined,  There are differences in presentations between childhood and adulthood and also gender.  Further research is looking into how hormones affect this, and it has been noted that ADHD presentations can be late onset during puberty (Kings College, London).

I have significant personal and professional experience in working with ADHD helping clients to identify and understand their traits, how to work with them rather than against them, so that with the right support and understanding they can reach their true potential, move forward and lead fulfilling lives.  I also promote education around ADHD, with so much under recognition and misunderstanding of Neurodivergence, in particular ADD (where hyperactivity is not present or dominant).  Many  people are continually being failed when it is not recognised, unfortunately this often leads to severe mental health issues in adulthood. including low self esteem, depression and high levels of anxiety.

Inner Child therapy:

This intervention is a gentle and non traumatising exploration to re-engage with that part of us that may still be wounded and unconsciously influencing our thoughts which drive our behaviours, cycles and patterns.  When we look back at childhood experiences we do so through the lens of our adult self, with developed emotional intelligence and rational thinking, but as a child we often are overwhelmed, unable to recognise our feelings or know what to do with them, often using suppression to cope, creating our own Pandora box that remains often causing psychological conflict, buried so deep we are not aware of how it drives us.. Connecting to our inner child enables us to allow that child part, still within,  a voice, and with understanding, acknowledging and validating our childhood experience. we can meet the human needs that were left unmet, develop self-awareness on what is still influencing us today, applying compassion, reassurance and recognising our authenticity.

Reconnecting to that part of us is essential for healing old wounds, understanding and correcting damaging core beliefs.

Couples / Relationship Therapy

Supportive, mediative, non-judgmental, impartial and respectful counselling for romantic partners or between 2 family members or a valued friendship, to explore and understand the dynamics affecting the relationship, and find solutions to overcome difficulties such as:

Communication issues

Repair and restore

Each others unmet needs

Conflict resolution

If it is concluded that there are irreconcilable differences then it can also help with endings:  Separation / Divorce

Reflexology for Female Health & Wellbeing

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is not simply a foot massage, it is also a powerful system of health care, useful for achieving and maintaining health and enhancing wellbeing.

In the hands of a qualified practitioner, it is one of the most powerful of all complementary therapies, and whilst no accredited and properly qualified reflexologist will ever claim to cure, experience shows that very positive health benefits are gained through the use of this therapy.

Reflexology is practiced using gentle pressure on parts of the feet called reflex areas, which correspond to specific areas of the body. The various organs and glands of the body are stimulated in this way to work one hundred percent of their capacity.

This helps to return the body's systems to a natural state of balance and enhancing the recipient's own natural healing capabilities.

Reflexology is a complementary therapy and should not be considered as an alternative to conventional medicine. It is also a Holistic therapy, in which every aspect is considered and treated.

Reflexology reduces stress by inducing deep relaxation; it improves the circulation and helps in cleansing the body of toxins.

Can Reflexology help me?

Reflexology can be particularly helpful in dealing with many of those conditions that many of us think we just have to accept as normal.

Here are just a few of the more common conditions that have been successfully helped through reflexology:

        Fertility & Pregnancy

        Pre-menstrual Tension

        Menopausal problems

        Migraine & Headaches

EFT Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping)

EFT is a mind/body tool that clears physical and emotional blocks from your energy system, it is non invasive, gentle, forgiving and non judgemental.  It has been called many things - emotional acupuncture, emotional first aid, psychological acupressure, meridian tapping.  Using the meridian system of energy (as used with acupuncture, Reflexology, Reiki etc) Tapping certain areas of our body as we focus on an issue we want to resolve while mindfully pay attention to thoughts and feelings. EFT allows us to release and transform uncomfortable emotions  and to help transform the thoughts and beliefs behind our emotional experiences.

So why Cuelia?

The name was chosen because of its special relevance to my childhood and meaning between my late, and dearly missed sister, Dawn.  It helps to keep her close and I know she would have been championing me every step of the way, as I refocussed and retrained, eventually creating my own business, all stemming from my need for healing and purpose, and my desire to help others in need.

For years my core beliefs were that our value was only equal to academic achievements and qualifications, employment position and earnings. So from historical conditioning from the adult world, that I was not good enough to achieve academically,  I did not really try in the learning environment.    Even though I rose through the ranks in the working world to Systems Engineer,  I suffered 'Imposter syndrome' - never feeling as good as my colleagues, despite the evidence and maintaining a 20yr career!.  This negatively affected my confidence and slowed my growth. It was only when my sister's tragic and complicated death, left me feeling lost, did I start to question what the point was, why I am still chasing these values and still never feeling ‘good enough’.

The corporate IT world was not providing the contentment or happiness I was seeking in my working life, I was stressed out, unfulfilled and stuck.  The constant work stress was causing ill health and my work/life balance was deteriorating rapidly. On reflection, I realised what gave me happiness and self worth was helping others, and after a period of soul searching, I began to test these beliefs with 10 years of further study and qualifications, beginning with the complementary therapies of Reiki and Reflexology, then expanded to include mental health with Hypnotherapy, Counselling and Psychotherapy.

It was the counselling journey that brought about the biggest change for me, the increased self-awareness, liberated me from the limiting, incorrect core beliefs which I had stored through childhood, they were holding me back in adulthood.   I realised my beliefs were wrong, and importantly those adults were wrong, they could have nurtured me but failed to do so, projecting their own opinion based on their views and agendas. This was not my truth, they were handed to me as a child and naturally were never questioned, but it was not just the adults in my life, these beliefs also came from my environment -schooling, peers, community & religious leaders and society etc.

I re-evaluated and developed an internal valuing system rather than giving that power to others. with acknowledging and processing supressed emotions from childhood sitting deep in my subconscious, using  inner child work, I began validating my raw emotions , those feelings that could not be understood as child, giving that younger self a voice finally. As a result, I was alleviating the psychological turmoil deep within, and able to live life more authentically.  I would class myself as wounded healer, a survivor of multiple traumatic and distressing events, healed and able to help others with empathy and compassion.
